Ten minutes after Russell Doig had given Leeds a fourteenth minute lead, Ron Futcher got an equalizer for the Bantams and twelve minutes later Mark Ellis had put them in front, a lead which they still held at half-time. It took a Glynn Snodin penalty just after the hour for Leeds to pull level and that was how it stayed until the final whistle. Simon Grayson replaced Gary Williams at Left Half. City rang the changes at half-time replacing goalkeeper Paul Tomlinson with Peter Litchfield, Outside right John Hendrie with Mark Leonard, centre forward Ron Futcher with Ian Ormondroyd and outside left Mark Ellis with Adrian Thorpe. The unused substitutes for Leeds were Bob Taylor, Lee Warren, Richard Annan and Ronnie Sinclair, while Steve O'Shaughnesssy was unused by Bradford. Referee T. Simpson (Sowerby Bridge).
